Fitness isn't a luxury, it is a necessity. Congratulations on taking the first and most important step in living a healthier and sustainable lifestyle! You may have many reasons for wanting to live a healthy lifestyle. It may be that you want to fit into old clothes, it could be so you can be more active with the kids or it could just be to perform daily activities without running out of breath. Whatever your reasons I am glad that you want to make a conscious change.
I am Matt. I am a certified personal trainer with NASM and a 500 hour registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance. I currently train people out of High Street Fitness in Pontypool and I also teach yoga both in person and online.
What inspired me to pursue personal training and yoga is the affect on mental health. I have suffered with anxiety and eating disorders in the past. One day I looked in the mirror and seen how sad I looked, how defeated I looked and decided I needed to make a change. It took a lot for me to leave my house let alone go to a gym! I started off small and eventually worked into a routine. Although I became extremely healthy, I made many mistake along the way that caused injuries due to poor form or poor flexibility.
I decided I wanted to help others but I needed to the knowledge to produce safe and effective programs, so I decided to move to San Diego, California for the ultimate test. While completing my personal trainer program, one of my professors talked to us about yoga and after trying a few classes, I fell in love with it. I researched all the philosophy behind it and eventually took my yoga teacher training. By the end of my time in California I managed to become both certified in personal training and yoga teaching.
